Ayiwāk Miyopayowin - “to become better”.
I love a bead soup inspired pair, but I had never tried the technique of stitching it one bead down at a time. It was very time consuming but I loved the result. I wanted a bit of beadwork that looked chaotic to be beside stitches that were more linear. Sometimes chaos can be scary and we miss the feeling of when things were orderly.
I feel like, as a society, we’ve been discovering a lot about each other in a really apparent way. Many of us may be feeling fractured or lost, while many more of us have been gravitating to people we know are safe, and (hopefully) many of us have been taking ownership and accountability for understanding and protecting the most marginalized.
I wanted this pair to be reminder that out of chaos, beautiful things can erupt. Things can become better in whatever space we are in - including us.
