I named this pair “Indigenous Science is Science”.
I made these after reading the NY Times article that revealed that researchers found out what Indigenous people have always known - we were already here before the Bering Strait was even accessible.
Time and time again, western researchers do not consult us or take us seriously - which is why everyone always clasps their pearls when they find out we’ve been telling the truth all along. Whether it’s about the Bering Strait theory being untrue, or the fact that we knew Columbus wasn’t the one who brought us horses, or even the true history of the horrors of residential schools - we knew all along.
Indigenous science is science. Indigenous history is history. Indigenous knowledge is valid and accurate. White supremacy is what keeps us from being listened to or even consulted, so like many of my Indigenous kin, I’ve learned more from my parents and grandparents about who I am, where I’m from, and where I’m going - more than anywhere else. They even taught me where to look if I become confused.
Our vast knowledge is in our communities. We know where to look even if no one else will.
