Kahkiyaw - “all of it”.
My parents taught us that it was our Nehiyaw way to be grateful for everything the Creator gives us. It was always important not to waste anything, including when our people would hunt. Our people would use every part of the animal; everything from the hide to the sinew and bone had a purpose. It is also important to give thanks to the Creator because we were mere stewards of the land; we were not owners. The nourishment and sustenance we received was reciprocal. We took care of the land and it’s inhabitants, and in turn, we were taken care of.
That’s why I named this piece “Kahkiyaw”. Nothing is ever to be wasted and everything must be given a purpose.
