I used the Sakewew design for the Peyakwahkotawin pendant. The idea behind the Sakewew design was looking at something through an obstruction - like binoculars. You can’t see the whole picture, but something is coming into focus. That’s was Sakewew means - “coming into view”.
The optimistic part of me wants to believe that a fire is being ignited in more people - I see so many of my close friends being lit up and trying as hard as they can to spark their circles and communities out of apathy (at best) and white supremacy (at worst) and into the kind of love that is focused and driven - into the desire to be racially and culturally literate. Into humility, honestly.
So I made this with the optimistic part of me for the optimistic part of someone else.
